The Pullman chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Club was founded in 1923. The members were women who worked outside the home; many were employees of Washington State University, such as Ivy Lewellen, an early and well-known member. The Business and Professional Women's Club in Pullman belonged to District 12, along with Spokane and other eastern Washington towns. The districts were part of the Washington State Federation, which was part of the National Federation.

The Pullman chapter's committees included social, membership, education, telephone, public affairs, national security, courtesy, legislation, health and safety, finance, radio, international affairs, and birthday banquet. These committees worked on various projects, had guest speakers, and gave lectures and other entertainment. The club was interested in the position of working women in the business and social world.

The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs (BPW) was founded in 1919 and was one of the oldest and largest organizations of working women.
