  		<p>Paul Philemon Kies was born at Highland, Illinois, in 1891. In 1915 he received a
  			Master of Arts degree in German from the University of Nebraska and a degree in
  			music from Lincoln Musical College. After teaching high school at Goodland, Kansas,
  			Kies accepted a pastorate in Illinois for two years. He graduated from the Chicago
  			Musical College in 1920, and taught English at Penn College in Iowa until 1924. He
  			then accepted a teaching position at the State College of Washington in Pullman,
  			Washington. In 1928 he received a doctorate in English from the University of
  			Chicago. Kies worked at the State College of Washington until his retirement as
  			Professor Emeritus in 1956. He died at Pullman in 1971. </p>

			<p>This collection contains papers of Paul Philemon Kies, a Washington State College
				English professor from 1924 until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1956.
				Included in the collection are correspondence, muscial scores and lyrics, poetry,
				genealogical research, scholarly publications, text books and manuals, ledgers, and
				clippings from the years 1911-1970. </p> 
	 	<p>Series 1: Correspondence, papers relating to Central Wesleyan College, and miscellanous papers, 1911-1970. </p>
	 	<p>Series 2: Musical scores and performance programs, poetry and song lyrics, 1908-1947. </p>
	 	<p>Series 3: Genealogy research, 1955-1963. </p>
	 	<p>Series 4: Student papers, scholarly publications, textbooks and manuals, 1926-1967. </p>
	 	<p>Series 5: Ledgers and assorted clippings, 1918-1950.</p>
