<p>In the summer of 1934, the Department of Education of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints requested Mr. Jesse N. Washburn to prepare a textbook suitable for use in the seminaries of the Church on the subject of the Old Testament. Mr. Washburn has successfully taught the subject for many years, has read widely on the subject, and thus has brought to the task a wealth of experience. The heart of the text consists of the Scriptures themselves, supplemented by questions and comments. He wrote several books which include <title render="italic">Book of Mormon: lands and times</title> and <title render="italic">Story of the Old Testament.</title></p>
