P1638 Romney, Daisy Marguerite Rolapp, 1895-1986 David Smellie and Daisy Rolapp Romney photograph collection 1895-1966 160 items 1 box Daisy Marguerite Rolapp (1895-1986) was a graduate of the University of Utah while her husband David Smellie Romney (1892-1975) served as mayor of Ogden, Utah in 1944 and as managing director of the Utah Symphony beginning in 1948. This collection contains black-and-white photographs of David and Daisy Romney, their families, photographs of performing artists, and photographs of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints mission. David Smellie Romney (1892-1975) was born on January 12, 1892 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ellen Taylor “Nellie” Smellie and Miles Alonzo Romney Sr. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Romney served a mission in New Zealand between 1911 and 1913. Daisy Marguerite Rolapp (1895-1986) was born on September 12, 1895 in Ogden, Utah to Emil Sophus and May Belle Horrocks Rolapp. She received a BA in English from the University of Utah, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and Theta Alpha Phi. She was also a staff member for The Daily Utah Chronicle .

David Romney and Daisy Rolapp married on September 7, 1921; together, they had two children. In 1922, David Rolapp began working in coal wholesale. In 1930, he became manager of Bennett Glass and Paint Company in Ogden, Utah. In 1944, he was appointed mayor of Ogden and was reelected to a second term. In 1948, Daisy and David Romney moved to Salt Lake City, where David Romney became the first managing director of the Utah Symphony, a position he held for ten years. In 1962, David Romney became president of George Romney and Sons Company in Salt Lake City, a position he held until his death on February 24, 1975. Daisy Rolapp Romney died on May 13, 1986.

The David Smellie and Daisy Rolapp Romney photograph collection consists of 1 box containing 160 black-and-white photographs of David Smellie and Daisy Rolapp Romney before and after their 1921 marriage. In addition to family photographs, the collection contains a photograph album, photographs of performing artists, and photographs of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints mission. The collection dates from approximately 1895 to 1966.
