Scott Calhoun was an attorney for the city of Seattle, and first counsel for the Port of Seattle Commission. Calhoun was born in Port Townsend, Washington in 1874, one of nine children to Dr. and Mrs. George Villars Calhoun, who came to Washington State in 1865 from New Brunswick, Canada. Calhoun studied law at Stanford University, graduating in 1892. Scott relocated to Seattle and began acquiring real estate, and secured a position in city government as an attorney. He was appointed City Tax Attorney in 1904, and was named City Corporation Counsel in 1905. He remained in that position for two terms, and was instrumental in securing legislation to establish the Port of Seattle. He became the first attorney for the Port Commission following its organization in 1912.
