Biography of D. Antony Andrews-Jones

D. Antony Andrews-Jones was an economic geologist and a consultant in geological assessment and mining feasibility (1953-1996). He received a Bsc in Geology from the University of Durham, England in 1953 and took post graduate courses at the Colorado School of Mines, 1962-1963. He was the chief geologist for Anschutz Corporation (1975-1979), and manager of the Denison Mines Denver district office where he was principally concerned with gold and silver exploration in the Rocky Mountains, and the western United States (1981-1982). He worked primarily in western Africa, South America and the western United States doing geochemical exploration, managing minerals-oriented companies and analyizing mineral sites for governments. He was based in the Rocky Mountain area from 1972 until the mid 1990s. During the mid 1980s and 1990s he was a consultant for mining companies.

Scope and Content

The D. Antony Andrews-Jones papers contain subject files which consist of correspondence, reports, notes, research material, and surveys (1934-1996).The majority of the files are about geological exploration and analyzing mineral assays and potential mining sites for mining companies based in the Rocky Mountains during the 1970s-1990s in western Africa, South America, and the western United States. The projects in the United States were in Alaska, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Texas. Some of the files are grouped by minerals, others by country. All contain background material pertinent to the mineral being assessed for potential mining. There are also mining seminar notebooks with his notes on the proceedings of the seminars (1970s-1990s).
