    <head>Biographical / Historical</head>
<p>Richard Berkeley Cotten was a far-right political writer and broadcaster.</p><p>Cotten was born September 8, 1919, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Sheppard M. and Ruth Wilson Cotten. Cotten was a political writer and commentator on the radio program <title>Richard Cotten's Conservative Viewpoint</title>, which, as of 1966, aired on thirty stations across the United States and internationally. He also published a newsletter of the same name. Cotten was involved with several white supremacist and anti-Semitic organizations, and his broadcasts and newsletters expressed his far-right, anti-Jewish, and anti-Black views. Cotten died June 18, 1998, at the age of 78. </p>  </bioghist>

<p>The Richard B. Cotten papers contain conservative publications, primarily copies of <title>Richard Cotten's Conservative Viewpoint</title> newsletters from the years 1964, 1967, and 1968. The collection also includes a U.S. Supreme Court brief of Richard B. Cotten v. James R. Schlesinger, 1974.</p>  </scopecontent>
