<p>"The Story of a Lynching: An Exploration of Southern Psychology," was written by Marcet Haldeman-Julius and published by Haldeman-Julius Publications in Girard, Kansas in 1927. Julius was a noted feminist, writer, and civil rights advocate. The pamphlet tells the story of the lynching of John Carter in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 4, 1927. It was part of a series of pamphlets known as "Little Blue Books" created by Julius' husband, Emanuel, a Jewish-American socialist writer and owner of Haldeman-Julius Publications. The Little Blue Books were affordable pocket-sized pamphlets published on cheap pulp paper. The pamphlets were extremely popular during the late 1920s and hundreds of millions of copies were sold.</p>
