Collection includes a typescript autobiography by Charles Henry McColloch, a printed booklet by Claude McColloch titled "Notes of a District Judge," 1948, and a typescript history, also by Claude McColloch, titled "The Strange Case of Alger Hiss." Other papers include correspondence; certificates; a 1947 will of Charles Henry McColloch; and a manuscript research paper by Lucille Cartwright on unemployment and social movements.</abstract>

      <p>Charles Henry McColloch (1861-1950) was a circuit court judge in Baker County, Oregon, from 1924-1942. He married Mary L. Wooddy and they had two sons, Claude C. McColloch and Frank McColloch. Claude C. McColloch was a lawyer in Portland, Oregon, who was confirmed as a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in 1937. Lucille Katherine Cartwright, nee Wooddy, was the niece of Charles Henry McColloch; she and Roy C. Cartwright married in 1924.</p>

      <p>Papers of the McColloch family relate to Charles Henry McColloch, his son Claude C. McColloch, and his niece and nephew, spouses Lucille Cartwright and Roy Cartwright. Materials related to Charles Henry McColloch include a typescript autobiography, 33 pages, 1934; judicial nomination certificates, 1930; a will dated 1947; and correspondence. Materials related to Claude McColloch include a printed booklet by him, titled "Notes of a District Judge," 1948; a typescript history, "The Strange Case of Alger Hiss," 10 pages, circa 1950; and correspondence. Also in the collection are papers related to the Cartwrights, including a typescript letter from Roy Cartwright to Lucille Cartwright from Fort Stevens, Oregon, 1917, regarding army life and his plans to be a field photographer in France in World War I; their marriage certificate, La Grande, Oregon, 1924; Oregon and California teacher certifications for Lucille Cartwright, 1919-1933; a manuscript research paper by Lucille Cartwright, 1934, regarding unemployment and social movements; and a manuscript teaching anecdote, 4 pages, undated, copied from the Fownlann Inn Tribune. Collection also includes a small amount of ephemera.</p>
