Darrell D. "Pinky" Robison (1932-2002) was born in Reno, Nevada to Ruth Moore and Donald A. Robison. Darrell lived in Peoria, Illinois and then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 12, where he fell in love with skiing. He attended high school in Exeter, New Hampshire, then graduated from East High School, and then continued his education at the University of Utah, where he became a member of the ski team.

During Robison's ski career, he won the Harriman Cup downhill at Sun Valley in 1951, the Snow Cup at Alta in 1953, and the slalom in the Pan American Games in Bariloche, Argentina in 1954. In 1951, Robison qualified to ski for the United States during the the Winter Olympic Games held in Oslo, Norway. This was the pinnacle of his career when, as a U.S. Olympian, he finished 22nd.
