Bob Zagorin was born in Lakewood, New Jersey on April 8, 1945. He graduated from both high school and college with honors, finishing his B.A. in History, Political Science, and English at Michigan State University in 1969. During the early 1970s, he attended Georgetown Law School followed by the University of Oregon School of Law and withdrew in good standing from each.
As a radio and TV journalist, Bob Zagorin worked at KZEL-FM, KBDF-AM, and KEZI-TV in Eugene, Oregon, doing news interviews with figures of local, regional, and national interest. He has been an active member of the community in Eugene as a prominent figure in local media and as a member of several local boards.
From 1989-1995 Zagorin was the executive director of the Oregon Guides and Packers Association. He was also the chairman of the Lane County Fair Board from 2006-2007, which manages the 55-acre Lane Events Center. He was the 2004 chairman of the Lane County Tourism Task force, and he has also been involved with the Convention & Visitors Association of Lane County (1992-Present, as of 2008) and the Lane Metro Partnership (1996-2000).
Articles written by Zagorin have appeared in the Eugene Register Guard, Oregon Coast, and Northwest Magazine. From 1995-2006 he worked in public relations and was the president of Diamond & Zagorin Creative Strategies, which created and managed onsite advertising programs at the Eugene Airport and the Lane Events Center.
Zagorin is the recipient of many awards for his work. In 1984, he received the Oregon AP Broadcasters award of Most Effective Use of a TV Program for a ten part report on governor's trade and the economic development mission to China and Japan; second place in the National Champion Award for Economic Understanding for a series on the Oregon fishing industry; and first and second place from the Society of Professional Journalism: NW Region for his business and economic reporting. He has also received two awards from the Oregon Guides and Packer's Association, and the RiverKeeper award from Oregon Trout in 1989.
This collection consists of 108 audio cassette tapes and eight reel-to-reel tapes donated by Bob Zagorin, and compact disc copies of most of the audio tapes and reels. The audio cassette tapes and corresponding CDs are mostly recordings of KZEL and KLCC news reports and interviews from radio shows hosted by Bob Zagorin during the second half of the 1970s. Common topics covered in the news reports and interviews include environmental issues, such as timber, herbicides, waste, power, water, and fishing; local and national events; political issues, such as government funding, international affairs, bills, government programs, and politicians; music; social movements; local and national groups and committees; and miscellaneous other topics of interest.
A limitation of this collection is that some of the tapes came to the library with minimal or difficult-to-read descriptions of the recordings on them. Therefore, the information about the content of the tapes and CDs in the finding aid is minimal in some cases.
The cassette tapes and the CDs are numbered consecutively. The CDs are copies of the cassette tape recordings and some reel-to-reel recordings.
