  		<p>M. Orion Monroe, a student at Washington State College (now University), began this project with a paper written for History 22, Frontier History of the United States, in 1915, and published it the following year in the Washington Historical Quarterly.</p>

	 	<p>This collection consists of two typescript versions and the published version of "A Critical Discussion of the Site of Camp Washington" by M. Orion Monroe, with a small amount of related documentation. Camp Washington was the name given to the site where Isaac Stevens and his exploring and surveying parties camped from October 25-30, 1853. The typescript versions include photographs, and the issue of the Washington Historical Quarterly containing the published version (volume VII, number 1, January 1916) includes interleaved related newspaper clippings.</p>
