Taylor Hyde Merrill was born on June 2, 1906 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Annie Laura Hyde and Joseph Francis Merrill. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Merrill served a mission in the Southern States Mission between 1926 and 1928. The first year of his service overlapped with David O. McKay. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1930, where he served as treasurer of the Senior Class. He married Marian Skeen in 1932; together, they had at least five children. He worked at Zion Securities Corporation. Merrill died on March 1, 1992.
