			<p>Washington State University’s General Education Visioning Committee was created in
				2008 with representatives from a dozen campus departments. The Provost’s Office
				charged the committee to provide “a vision and strategy” for General Education
				within a year. </p>
			<p> </p>
			<p>Prior to this committee, WSU’s model of General Education was a compromise model that
				embodied strengths of different models current in the 1980s, derived from an
				intensive study of general education models of the time. Based on the GEVC’s
				conclusions, in 2011 the University approved a new UCORE (University Common
				Requirements) program. Richard Law was an administrator of the General Education
				Program starting in 1990, as well as a professor of English until he retired.</p>

			<p>Files from the WSU General Education department from 1986-2009. Files include
				budgets, committee notes, binder reports, proposals, course criteria files, course
				requirements, and final paper requirements. </p>

			<p>This is an unprocessed collection. Any arrangement reflects either a pre-existing
				order from the records' creators or previous custodians, or preliminary sorting
				performed by staff. </p>
			<p>Boxes are mostly unorganized but are in subject files. Boxes 1, 2, and 5 contain
				administrative files, correspondence, and memoranda related to the General Education
				Committee (GEC) and Richard Law's time as an administrator of the program. Boxes 3
				and 6 contains documents related to the Co-Teaching Grant from 1999-2004, as well as
				other grants related to the GEC. Boxes 7 and 8 contain material related to teaching,
				fundraising, and academic integrity. Box 9 contains information related to the
				Weyerhauser project. </p>

				proper. One additional box received 2009-07-02 and added to end. Accessioned in
				original order, with two boxes combined. Additional items received 2009-06-29 added
				to the end of one box; see note in the front of those two boxes. Most in original
				boxes- see content notes on outside of boxes. Needs further appraisal - article
				files were purged in accessioning, but nothing more was done.</p>
