Laura Judy wrote three papers on "Pioneer Women of Amity" for the Amity Study Club. Judy appears to be the niece of Buffum. Little additional information on Judy is available.

Caroline Thurman was born in 1814, in Ohio. She moved to Fulton County, Illinois, where she married William Gilbert Buffum in 1828 at the age of 14 (her husband was 24). In spring of 1845, she and her husband started across the plains to Oregon. They reached Oregon in 1847. Buffum died on November 5, 1895.

The collection is a brief biographical narrative by Laura Judy on the life of Caroline Thurman Buffum. It offers some details into Buffum's early life in the Northwest. The biography traces the Buffum's migration to Oregon in 1845 and their lives in Oregon thereafter. The biography notes changes in Buffum's family (the birth and adoption of children); highlights significant events like the Modoc War (between white migrants and local Indian nations); and celebrates the pioneering contributions of Buffum's life (she was the first member of the Amity Christian Church).
