This collection includes a small amount
of correpondence, flyers and newsclippings relevant to the gay and lesbian
community in Missoula, Montana. Also included are issues of
OutSpoken, A Voice for the Gay Men and Women of
Missoula, a periodical co-founded by Justin Armintrout and Greg Kastl
and later co-published by Justin Armintrout and Cat Carrel.

Biographical Note
Justin Armintrout was born in 1975 and graduated from Monte Vista High
School in Watsonville, California in 1994. He received a B.A. in Communication
Studies with an emphasis in organizational communications from The University
of Montana-Missoula.
In addition to co-founding the first gay and lesbian newspaper in
Montana, Armintrout worked with the Human Rights Campaign and the Western
Montana Gay and Lesbian Community Center. He was a member of the Missoula
Organization of Home Realtors and a volunteer member of the Missoula
City-County Health Department’s HIV Advisory Committee and Montana Gay Men’s
Task Force for HIV/AIDS. He ran for the Missoula City Council in 2007.
This collection includes issues from 1997-2000 of
OutSpoken, A Voice for the Gay Men and Women of Missoula,
a periodical first co-founded and published by Justin Armintrout and Greg Kastl
in 1997 and, beginning in April 1998, co-published by Justin Armintrout and Cat
Carrel. The collection also includes correpondence from Kastl to Armintrout,
flyers, programs, a poster, OutSpoken t-shirts, and newsclippings relevant to
the gay and lesbian community in Missoula, Montana.

In 2024, an additional accession of
OutSpoken materials were processed into the collection, and folders were renumbered.
The Archives also holds oral history interview Justin Armintrout (OH
426) recorded in May 2009.
