Dairy Herd Improvement Associations, such as the Yakima Valley Association, are designed to help the owners of dairy herds better manage their business. The Yakima Valley Association hired its own testing agent and tested each cow in every member's herd and created an annual report with these statistics at the end of each year. The statistics included the amount of milk produced, the butter fat content of the milk, as well as what feed the cows were on. The data in the report was designed to help owners make decisions to better manage their herds in the future.
