The Montana State Legislature is made up of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Constitution of Montana limits the size of the Senate to no fewer than 40 and no more than 50 members and the size of the House of Representatives to no fewer than 80 and no more than 100 members. Each house is responsible for choosing its officers, creating committees, and establishing its rules. The Montana Legislature meets for 90 days every odd-numbered year, beginning the first Monday in January, or the following Wednesday if the first Monday is New Year's Day. The first State Legislature convened on November 23, 1889, 15 days after Montana became a state. Each following legislative session has been numbered sequentially.

The 67th Montana Legislature met from January 4th to May 13th, 2021. There were 17 standing committees in the House and 21 standing committees in the Senate. The Senate leadership was Mark Blasdel (R-President), Jason Ellsworth (R-President Pro Tempore), Cary Smith (R-Majority Leader), and Jill Cohenour (D-Minority Leader). The leaders of the House were Wylie Galt (R-Speaker), Casey Knudsen (R-Speaker Pro Tempore), Sue Vinton (R-Majority Leader), and Kim Abbott (D-Minority Leader). The transmittal dates were March 3rd and 26th, April 8th, 20th, and 29th, and May 3rd and 6th.

This collection includes minutes and reports of the Montana State House and Senate standing committees and joint Appropriations subcommittees. Topics of note include minutes from the Senate's COVID-19 Response Panel, Select Committee on Marijuana Law, and Judicial Transparency and Accountability Committee, as well as minutes from the House Select Committee on House Bill 632--an act implementing the American Rescue Plan Act. This collection also contains the text of each House and Senate bill and resolution as well as joint resolutions produced during the 2021 regular session.

The materials in this collection are arranged by the creating chamber and committee and are divided into three series.
