      <p>Collection consists primarily of photostat letters from Z. C. Bishop to family, 1837-1856, with typed transcripts. Bishop wrote most letters from places in the Oregon Territory, including "Pugets Sound" [sic] and Salem; one letter was written from Stockton, California, and one from Hong Kong. Also included in the collection is a photocopy newspaper clipping with genealogical information about descendants, including the Rhodes family of Benton County, Missouri; a photograph (original and photocopy) of the grave of Mary Ann Bishop, wife of Z. C. Bishop; and a typescript index to articles and archival materials about Bishop.</p>
