         <p>The Register-Guard began as the Eugene Guard newspaper, based in Eugene, Oregon. William M. "Bill" Tugman became the long standing managing editor for almost twenty years.</p>  
      </bioghist>

         <p>The collection contains files from the editor's desk and includes subject files and correspondence concerning local, city, and state issues and politics. </p>
         <p>Subject files are alphabetically organized by subject title. Topics include academic freedom, Bonneville Dam, and Oregon politicians. Local Eugene and Springfield issues are prevalent. </p>
         <p>Correspondence is filed by date and also by name when the amount of material warrants it. For example, there are multiple correspondence files for Wayne Morse. Correspondence also includes letters from private citizens as well as politicians and public figures. </p>
