    <head>Biography of C.O. Fiske</head><p>C.O. (“Larry”) Fiske (1922-1992) was a United States Naval Aviation officer and a polar explorer. He was a member of the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition of 1946-1948 and later served as the American Executive Officer at a joint American-British weather observation station at Resolute Bay, Canada. In 1950 the Navy recalled him to active duty with the rank of lieutenant, and he participated in Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica in the 1950s. He was also involved in the recovery of Gemini IV, and he taught courses on civil-military relations at the Naval War College. Fiske retired from the Navy with the rank of captain in 1974.</p>

    <head>Scope and Content</head><p>The C.O. Fiske collection contains material about Fiske’s life, naval career, and polar explorations. The material includes artifacts, correspondence, research and subject files, and photographs regarding explorations in the Arctic and Antarctica. Also included are academic materials for the Naval War College, publicity materials about NASA and the recovery of Gemini IV, and personal materials.</p>

In addition, information relating to the joint federal and state income tax returns of Clarence, Helen, and Joyce Fiske may not be published during their lifetimes without their joint written consents or separate consent upon the death of one before the other(s).</p>
