<p><titleitle>Hypatia: a Journal of Feminist Philosophy</titleitle> is a peer-reviewed academic journal published quarterly by Cambridge University Press. It is named after Hypatia of Alexandria, a mathmatician and philosopher who was murdered by a mob in 415 CE. The idea for the journal arose from meetings of the Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP). The SWIP editorial board chose the name to reflect that women have deep roots in philosophy. The journal is owned by a non-profit corporation called Hypatia Inc registered in the state of Washington in April 2008.</p>
