      <abstract encodinganalog="description">The University of Utah Friars Club records (1926-1930) contains <title render="italic">Friar News,</title> volumes 1-5, club sheet music, stationary, and a club seal embosser.  The Friars Club was a fraternity first created by former University of Utah president, John A. Widtsoe, in 1920 for returning LDS missionaries.  It later merged with Delta Phi and was renamed in 1931 and again renamed Delta Phi Kappa 1961.  In 1978, Delta Phi Kappa merged with Sigma Gamma Chi.</abstract>

      <head>Historical Note</head>
      <p>The Friars club was a fraternity first created by former University of Utah president, John A. Widtsoe,in 1920 for returning LDS missionaries.  It later merged with Delta Phi and was renamed in 1931 and again renamed Delta Phi Kappa 1961.  Delta Phi Kappa created an endowment that provided scholarships to both LDS men and women students.  In 1978, Delta Phi Kappa merged with Sigma Gamma Chi.</p>
