			<p>The Washington State University Fire Department predates 1909. It was notable for
				initially being student managed and subsequently at least partially manned by
				student firemen. For most of its lifetime, the Fire Department, along with police
				and ambulance services, were under the umbrella of the WSU Safety Division. The WSU
				Fire Department was closed at the end of 2004, for budgetary reasons, and its
				functions moved to the City of Pullman Fire Department.</p>

			<p>The collection consists of approximately 100 items related to the Washington State
				University Fire Department. House Logs serve as both scrapbooks and fire records of
				the department, while the House Meeting Minutes track administrative and day-to-day
				activities. Correspondence consists primarily of "thank you" letters from the
				college and community. Reminiscences consists of a a former fire fighter's look back
				at his time there in the 1950s. Clippings and Photographs consists of photocopies of
				the scrapbooks and photograph collection of the fire department.</p>

				transferred from the Fire Department to the Washington State University Archives in
				two accessions in 1986-1987 (UA 1986-21 and UA 1987-20).</p>
