      <p>William "Bill" Tanner and Hertha Tanner grew up in Salt Lake City and Sandy, Utah. William became an oral surgeon and Hertha a homemaker. During the time these films were taken, the family was living in Hayward, California with their children Judy, Justin, Valen, Clelen, and Kylan.</p>

      <p>The Tanner family home movies (circa 1960s) consist of family films from a variety of settings, people, and activities, mostly centered around Hayward, California. The films were taken by William and Hertha Tanner, who grew up in Salt Lake City and Sandy, Utah respectively. The films contain video of family gatherings, community events, and outdoor footage in various locations. All films have been digitized and are available to view on the DVD described in this finding aid.</p>

            <p>Family gathered in a room at or near Christmas time listening to a woman play piano while a man plays saxophone. Then a little kid plays piano and another little kid plays a xylophone. Another is in angel wins dancing, then there are a whole bunch of people both standing around and dancing. A man and woman dance while another woman plays the piano.</p>

Then they gather around a table and are seated, then stand with their parents seemingly receiving some kind of recognition. Four are dressed as Indians and dance around a totem pole, and then others are pushing themselves around on a cart. The rest who are seated seem very excited. A boy is dressed in a Halloween costume, then more in costume are shown.</p>

The older woman stands next to the younger woman who was sitting at the desk earlier in the film, and they converse.</p>
