Historical Note

The Missoula Lumber Company was one of many businesses utilizing the
vast natural resources of Western Montana to supply wood and construction
products for the early urban development of Missoula and its surrounding
communities. Founded in the late 1880s, the company served the Missoula region
until 1914 when it was renamed the Largey Lumber Company after company
president, Patrick A. Largey. The Missoula Lumber Company was favorably located
on the corner of Scott Street and Stoddard Street in Missoula’s Northside
Neighborhood, an emerging center for warehousing and light industry near the
Northern Pacific Railway Yard. Sold and renamed in 1917, Largey Lumber Company
became the Missoula White Pine Sash Company, which manufactured wooden window
and door components at that location until 1996.
