The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering is part of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. The program offers courses to prepare students for the complexities of architecture, urban and rural land development, and construction management. The subject of civil engineering was first introduced to UW in 1910 with the Department of Civil and Irrigation Engineering. As architectural engineering grew in popularity, it was combined with civil engineering to become a joint department.
