Lee Greene Richards (1878-1950) was one of Utah's most prominent painter of portraits. He was born 1878 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Levi W. and Lulu Greene Richards. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1898 to England and studied art in England, France, Germany, and Italy. He married Mary Jane Eldredge in 1908 and then they both moved to Paris, France. It was there in which Richards served on the jury for the Paris Atumn Salon as the lone representative from the United States.
