The Lauritzen papers were obtained by USU after Dr. Lauritzen's death in 1970. They include a small part of his numerous research projects and scientific papers.

Dr. Cyril Walker Lauritzen was born in Holladay, Utah. He received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University and his PhD from Michigan State University in soil physics. He later returned to Utah where, through his work as a soil physicist, he gained an international reputation, particularly for his methods of conserving irrigation water.
The papers are, for the most part, arranged in the original order. The arrangement is chronological by either the earliest or only dated item in the file. An oversized manuscript, personal award, and certificate along with the graveside service for Dr. Lauritzen are placed at the end of the collection in a legal-size box.
