The Washington State University Libraries date to the founding of the Washington Agricultural College and School of Science, when the library was just a shelf in the President’s office in the first campus building. It quickly grew and became a room in the original College Hall, then half a floor in the Administration Building (Thompson Hall), then half of Bryan Hall, then the full Holland Library, and then the Owen Science and Engineering Library as well. Over time a number of departmental libraries acted as branches of the system, some officially and some unofficially.
The collection consists of sets of microfiche cards which compose a COM (Computer Output Microfiche) Catalog. They list materials added to the Washington State University Libraries between June 1, 1979 and the mid-1980s.
Items are arranged in their original three series, in alphabetic order, with supplemental materials at the end of each relevant series. Within each series and subseries, microfiche cards are arranged in their original numeric (alphabetical) order. Two loose sheets of paper are documentation photocopied off of the original circular holding case.

These were transferred to Washington State University Libraries’ Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections on March 15, 2017 by Mary Gilles of the WSU Libraries, and retained as UA2017-02.
The catalog initially came on a rotating file stand; materials were removed and organized, and the stand was returned to the Libraries proper.
