General Thomas L. Kane, friend to Brigham Young, was well known as a mediator between the Mormons and the federal government. He and his wife, Elizabeth, visited Utah from 1872-1873.

The Twelve Mormon Homes photograph collection consists of images of Elizabeth Kane and her husband, General Thomas L. Kane. Images were used in the book titled, Twelve Mormon Homes : Twelve Mormon homes visited in succession on a journey through Utah to Arizona.
