Marilyn Ross Allen (1890-1977) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, sometime after 1935. She lived in Atlanta until 1944 when she then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Marilyn Allen's writings actively promoted racial segregation, white Christian supremacy, and similar ideologies. Her works are examples of hate speech targeting many different racial, ethnic, and religious minorities as well as communists. One of her books is held by the Holocaust Museum as an example of antisemitic writing in the US during the 1950s.
Allen's work is largely self-published, including her "I Love America" pamphlet series in which she claimed that white Christians were a minority group in America and were being persecuted. She subscribed to the belief that Jewish communists secretly controlled the United States and wrote about the recently created independent state of Israel. Allen also voiced strong opposition to interracial couples and promoted violence against people of color. Marilyn Allen died of natural causes in December 1977 in Salt Lake City.
The Marilyn R. Allen papers contain published and unpublished contain manuscripts, circulars, and articles. A significant portion of the collection is news clippings, which are arranged topically. News clippings include letters to the editor written by Marilyn R. Allen.
Boxes one and two contain Marilyn Allen's personal work, including manuscripts, notes, published pamphlets and correspondence to the editors of the Salt Lake Tribune. Boxes three and four are arranged topically, and include news clippings and pamphlets.
