      <bioghist encodinganalog="5450_" id="a2">
         <p>Jeffrey Brotman, born in 1942, grew up in Tacoma. He attended
		  University of Washington where he majored in political science and graduated
		  from law school in 1967. He practiced law briefly in Seattle while at the same
		  time running a few retail businesses with his brother, Michael. In 1982, he
		  cofounded Costco and served as Chairman of the Board until his death in
		  2017.</p>

         <p>1 CD and one transcript of interview conducted on June 2, 2010 with
		  Ernie and Doris Stiefel and Steve Adler. Brotman recounts his childhood and the
		  Jewish communities in Tacoma and Seattle. He also explains the evolution of the
		  business model for Costco Wholesale and its early history. Names discussed
		  include: Rabbi Richard Rosenthal, Victor Alhadeff, and Jim Sinegal.</p>
