Thomas Grigg was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada on February 11,
1861. He attended school and studied medicine under his father on Prince Edward
Island before studying at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specialized
in eye, ear, nose, throat, and chest disorders. He graduated with high honors
in 1887.

Grigg arrived in Butte in 1892, one of the earliest specialists in
Montana. In addition to his medical practices, he developed an interest in
mining and invested extensively in oil and mining properties. In 1915, Grigg
helped form the Alberta Beaverhead Gas and Oil Company. His interests also
extended into politics. In 1910, he was elected as alderman for Butte's Sixth
Ward, an office he held for two terms. He died in 1932.

court documents related to Grigg's dispensation of intoxicating liquors,
records kept by Grigg documenting his practice of medicine, and ephemera and
photographs. This collection also includes correspondence to Grigg's daughter,
Joanna McCready, that includes a letter from the Federal Emergency Relief
