      <head>Biographical Note</head>
      <p>Russell W. Hansen began teaching in the Sociology Department at Central Washington University in 1969. He completed his Ph.D. in Sociology in 1970 from Washington State University and in 1981 received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Idaho. Dr. Hansen served as department chair of the CWU Sociology Department from 1976 to 1980. He also taught in the Law and Justice program during the 1980s and early 1990s. In 1990 he was named director of the Law and Justice program, a position which he held until his retirement.</p>

      <p>Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.</p>
