  	<head>History of the Union Pacific Railroad Company</head> 

    <p>The Union Pacific Railroad Company was formed by Congress in 1862. The Union Pacific Railroad extended 1,006 miles before it joined the Central Pacific Railroad in Promontory Point, Utah on May 10, 1869. The company grew to operate out of 13 states in the American Midwest and West. In 1969 ownership was transferred to the Union Pacific Corporation where it has since stayed. Union Pacific became known as the Union Pacific System when it merged with the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company and the Western Pacific Railroad Company in 1982.</p>

    <p>Collection contains bound records of earnings and expenses for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1884-1900, annual reports spanning 1900-1956, a volume of freight and passenger reports for the years 1891-1892, miscellaneous documents, photographs, a souvenir booklet, maps, newspaper clippings and newspapers, miscellaneous booklets, time tables, brochures, manuscripts, correspondence, and a bibliography by Grace Raymond Hebard.</p>
