		  Seattle group organized to promote knowledge of and friendly relations with
		  Japan</abstract></did><bioghist encodinganalog="5451_" id="a2"><p>Established on July 24, 1923, the Japan-America Society's name was
		  changed in 1965 to Japan America Society of Seattle. Between 1975 and 1984 the
		  name was again changed to Japan-America Society of the State of Washington. Its
		  purpose was to further friendly relations and trade between Japan and America,
		  and to encourage understanding by the American populace of Japanese culture,
		  civilization, and economic gains. The Society is a non-profit organization
		  supported by corporate and private members throughout the state. Its activities
		  include a variety of programs about Japan and the Japan-US/Washington State
		  relationship, featuring cultural, public affairs, hospitality and educational
		  programs. The Society publishes an annual report, bi-monthly newsletter,
