      <head>Biographical Note</head>
      <p>Ralph Maughan was the associate professor of political science specializing in natural resource policy at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho and one of the longest active conservationists in eastern Idaho. Maughan served as the vice president and Wilderness Chairman for the Idaho Environmental Council, chairman of the Northern Rockies Chapter of the Sierra Club, and was part of the River of No Return Wilderness Council. </p>

      <p>The Ralph Maughan papers span the years 1971-1980. Included in the papers are correspondence relating to environmental issues and environmental impact statements.</p>
