            <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">The William J. Foreman diary is a positive photocopy of
                two pages from a diary kept by Foreman that record a trip he took to Yellowstone
                National Park on August 12 through 14, 1897. The description of the journey and
                countryside is sparse and the only mention of wildlife is an encounter with a skunk
                at a camp on the Gibbon River.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>William John Foreman was born in Dover, England on May 30, 1852. Around 1869, Foreman
                immigrated to the United States and settled in Madison County, Montana Territory. He
                married Mary Isabella Halse on June 27, 1879 and the couple had at least seven
                children. Foreman was an active Freemason and served at least two terms as the
                Madison County assessor during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He died
                from a fall at the Virginia City Masonic Temple on March 21, 1919.</p>

                Thexton of Ennis, Montana were photocopied by her and donated to Montana State
                University in April, 1972. The present location of the original is unknown. </p>
