Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1931. Married Phyllis
Tatcher. Senior Rabbi of Temple De Hirsch Sinai, Seattle 1970 to time of
interview (30+ years).
Tape recorded interview covering the years 1931-2001, taken on March
6, 2001; transcript, photograph, biographical and professional summary
Rabbi Starr discusses early influences, his decision to become a
Rabbi, his professional life in Pennsylvania and in Seattle. He also talks
about his work in the community, changes in Reform Judaism in Seattle, and
interfaith issues such as marriage. Dr. Starr describes the growth of the
Temple and the community; and he discusses anti-semitism, Jewish advocacy, and
teaching.
