      <bioghist encodinganalog="545">
    
         <p>Gerald Victor Hurley (1898-1978), a businessman, historian and writer, was born in Springfield, Missouri and grew up in the American Northwest, attending the University of Washington. He served in the U.S. Army in WWI, and later travelled to the Philippines, living and working in Zamboanga, Mindanao as a Goodyear Rubber executive. In WWII, he served as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy. He is known for writing the books Southeast of Zamboanga, Men in Sun Helmets, Swish of the Kris,  Jungle Patrol, and The Parthian.</p>

         <p>Collection includes book length manuscripts, articles and short stories, miscellaneous items, memorabilia, and correspondence.</p>
         <p>Book length manuscripts include "Blades In the Sun," "The Coronado Island Adventures," "Jungle Patrol," "Men in Sun Helmets," and "The Three Bachelors."</p>
         <p>Non-fiction articles include "Appointment with Paddock," "Banzai," "Cobras in the Sea," and "The Tropic Dowager."</p>
         <p>Fiction articles include "Bird on the Wing," "Feeling of Privacy,"  and "Perfume of Glory."</p>
         <p>Miscellaneous items include notes on sport fishing in the Philippines, interview material, a poem, notes on writing, selling, and editing the historic novel, Red Cross Drive radio spot, and U.S. Navel Vessels-Standard nomenclature. </p>
         <p>Correspondence includes incoming, outgoing, and war correspondence.</p>
         <p>Memorabilia includes photographs, clippings, scrapbooks, and dust jackets for his books.</p>
