         <p>The Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit volunteer women's service organization "dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children." The society was founded in 1890; membershop is open to any woman who can prove she is a direct descendent of "a patriot of the American Revolution."</p>
         <p>The Oregon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) "began with the formation of the Multnomah Chapter in Portland by Mrs. Mary Phelps Montgomery in 1896. There are thirty-seven chapters in Oregon with over 1775 members."</p>
         <p>During the early 1900s, Anne M. Lang served as vice president general, and state regent of the Oregon DAR. </p>

         <p>The collection consists of alphabetically arranged correspondence files, from L-Z only, from 1913; and 1917 to 1936. There are about 500 individual letters. </p>
         <p>The files are from the records kept by Anne M. Lang, of The Dalles, Oregon, who had served as vice-president general, and state regent of the Oregon D.A.R.  </p>
