		  immigrant Filipino men who settled on Bainbridge Island, Washington </abstract></did><bioghist encodinganalog="5450_" id="a2"><p>Mac. C. Oreiro, Jr., was born September 23rd, 1944 on Bainbridge
		  Island, Washington. His father was Macario C. Oreiro, Sr. </p></bioghist><odd type="hist"><p>In the 1870s, a small group of settlers. who relied primarily on their
		  farming and shipping industries, settled Bainbridge Island. Some of the most
		  successful farms before 1940 were strawberry farms owned by Japanese
		  immigrants. They, in turn, hired many of the first Filipino immigrants as berry
		  pickers. During WWII, the Filipino pickers took over the farm's
		  responsibilities while the owners were sent to internment camps. As of 2000,
		  self-identified Filipinos made up 0.59% of Bainbridge Islands total population
		  of over 23,000.</p></odd><scopecontent encodinganalog="5202_" id="a3"><p>The album is a research paper written in 1974 documenting first
		  generation Filipino immigrants on Bainbridge Island compiled by Mac C. Oreiro
		  Jr. It includes mainly portraits of male community elders. It also includes
		  maps and information about La Union Province, Philippines, and a series of
