This collection is a research collection compiled by a scholar who studied the history of race, the Ku Klux Klan, and right-wing extremism in the United States, particularly in the Pacific Northwest.
Right-wing extremism holds white supremacy as a core ideology. In response to the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, three overlapping far-right movements emerged in the United States. One of the movements was anti-government militia organizations seeking to overthrow the United States government and establish and maintain a white racial and national identity. A second movement was white supremacist groups, including new factions of the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi organizations. Thirdly, religious fundamentalist movements, such as Christian Identity, arose.
The White supremacy research collection contains publications, U.S. government files, audiovisual materials, and artifacts related to various white supremacist organizations and other extremist groups in the United States.
The Publications series contains newsletters, newspapers, booklets, catalogs, flyers, correspondence, and bound volumes concerning white supremacy, neo-Nazism, anti-Semitism, anti-communism, right-wing extremism, and survivalism, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. The series includes materials related to Aryan Nations, the Ku Klux Klan, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, the National Association for the Advancement of White People, the White Aryan Resistance, the Militia of Montana, Christian Identity, and the Church of Jesus Christ–Christian.
The Freedom of Information Act files series contains U.S. government files requested through the Freedom of Information Act. The series includes files regarding the National Youth Alliance and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) files on Francis Parker Yockey.
The Audiovisual materials series contains audio cassette tapes and VHS tapes relating to white supremacy, anti-Semitism, anti-communism, survivalism, and right-wing extremism, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. The series includes materials regarding Aryan Nations, the Ku Klux Klan, the White Aryan Resistance (WAR), and Louis Beam.
