  	<head>Biography of Allan Nevins</head><p>Allan Nevins specialized in Civil War and economic history and American biography. He worked as a journalist in New York before beginning a 30 year career as professor of history at Columbia University in 1928. After his retirement from Columbia in 1958, he spent the remainder of his life as a senior research associate at the Huntington Library. Nevins won two Pulitzer Prizes for his biographies of Grover Cleveland and Hamilton Fish and was chair of the U.S. Civil War Centennial Commission.</p>
