relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for young
unemployed, unmarried men as part of the New Deal. It provided unskilled manual
labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in
rural lands owned by federal, state and local governments. During the years of
the CCC operations, they planted nearly 3 billion trees to help reforest
America, constructed more than 800 parks nationwide and upgraded most state
parks, updated forest fire fighting methods, and built a network of service

material documenting two Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps. The album is
titled "Memories of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 4734." Pages at the
front of the album have blank space for a Corps member to record information
and memories of their experiences. A printed section contains text and images
explaining "What the CCC is and does" on a national level; the following
printed section presents information on the district of Arkansas administrators
and about the Company 4734 camp at Forrest City, Arkansas. A roster of Company
4734 is included (the Corps workers were African American; commanding officers
in the Corps were White). The rest of the album is a scrapbook style photograph
album containing snapshots of work and life at the camp as well as photographs
of the Beacon Rock CCC camp number 5709; several clippings explain that 72 men
from Arkansas came to do CCC work (these CCC workers appear to be White). The
album also contains snapshots of personal photographs from a trip. It is
probable that this album was put together by one of the CCC camp officers from
