Dennis Witmer (1957-) was born in Pennsylvania in 1957, and took up photography in
1977 as an undergraduate at Millersville College. He was accepted into the graduate
fine art photography department at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1985, but
instead began photographing the American landscape, and moved to Alaska in 1987 in
pursuit of that end. In 2012 he moved to Spokane, WA, and almost immediately began
photographing regional grain elevators.
