Charles Vincent Mutschler was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 28, 1955. When Mutschler's father completed his PhD in geology, his family moved to Cheney, Washington. Mutschler graduated from Cheney high school, and graduated from Eastern Washington State College with his Bachelor's in History. Mutschler also earned a Master's in History at Eastern Washington University, and a Master's in Archival Science from Western Washington University. Finally, Mutschler achieved a PhD in History at Washington State University. Throughout his education career, he worked at the university archives at Eastern Washington University as a student assistant. He eventually became the university archivist, and served as interim dean of the libraries at Eastern Washington University. His research in history was centered on railroads, and is an interest he developed during his childhood. He was a dedicated historian, and spent his time outside of the archives preserving history in Cheney and in the Spokane area. Mutschler died on March 10, 2019.
