<bioghist encodinganalog="545">

Historically, Little Red Riding Hood was originally a story created by French author
Charles Perrault with a lesson, warning young girls to not talk to strangers. As the story evolves over time (the Grimm Brothers for example), different messages and events have been incorporated within the story, however the underlying moral remains the same. Dr. Brenda Brayan-Broadbent (Zinskey) took interest in the many versions and ways that the story of Little Red Riding Hood influenced folk culture. She already had a passion for teaching children early in her career, and as she grew in her educational and academic career, so did the collection.

There are over 1100 items within this collection, consisting of books, CDs and DVDs,
audio and VHS tapes, trinkets, toys, dolls, puzzles, stamps, bedroom scenes, and games. The majority of the collection was created by Dr. Brenda Branyan-Broadbent (Zinskey) over 30 years, to which the Library continues to add each year. Dr. Branyan worked for over 30 years as a teacher, then faculty member of Utah State University Instructional Technology Department with the library . The research value of these materials is quite diverse. For Early Childhood Educators, this collection offers valuable insights to child development, curriculum design, and cultural sensitivity. For Folklore Scholars this collection will be invaluable for tracing narrative evolution, analyzing cultural significance, and informing theoretical frameworks. Lastly, this collection provides research value for Artists and Art Historian, offering inspiration for creative work, provides understanding of artistic interpretations, and would allow them to be able to contextualize art within culture.
