      <abstract encodinganalog="5203_">The William Wallace Newby papers (1930-1985) consist of personal and professional materials concerning William Newby (1902-1977), a professor of biology at the University of Utah from 1927-1971. Included are biographical information, obituary notices, an oral history transcript, numerous hand drawn and reproduced illustrations, and literature and correspondence pertaining to the Aztec Club, of which Newby was president from 1965-1966.</abstract>

    <bioghist encodinganalog="545">
      <p>William Wallace Newby received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 1926, his masters of science degree from Iowa State College in 1927, and his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1939. Genetics and molecular biology were Newby's specialties leading him to chair the Department of Genetics and Cytology at the University of Utah from 1948-1962. He served on various other committees and received the Distinguished Teaching Award.</p>
